You hit the nail on the head. The diversity that is valued is superficial. Color of skin, gender, and ethnicity. Not diversity of ideas, or thoughts. You must look different, but have the exact same outlook, and make the same arguments.

I did a degree in publishing as well as an internship at a publishing house. So much of the focus is toward so-called positive representation of communities of people, and so if a manuscript may be deemed offensive or insensitive to a group, it won't be picked up. Eff that.
