I’ve noticed that most Arabs leave Islam, but most Pakistanis want to hang on-advocating for reform or ‘cultural Islam’ Why the distinction? Is it because Arabs have a better understanding of Islam? Or is it because Pakistanis have few cultural aspects once you remove Islam?

@SamHarrisOrg would spend more time chatting with you and@ArminNavabi and think more carefully about how he has never tried to square his position on lying with the project of Islamic "reform".3 replies 0 retweets 1 like -
I’m re-reading End of Faith and I think Sam is very clear on his position re religious moderates. But, like flat-earthers and others that hold irrational beliefs-we have to share the planet w them, so we have to engage in dialogue and not just be dismissive.

Armin and I are not on the same pg here. I’m more of the belief that less dangerous fairy tales are preferable to dangerous fairy tales as we move in the direction of eventually no fairy tales. We will get there. In the meantime, I’d be happy if they stop killing us.

No version of that fairy tale allows you to leave it behind.

Who cares if it allows it or not? Many of us do leave it behind. Deuteronomy also calls for the death of ppl who leave the religion. Humans can (and will) evolve past those hateful books. We can do that if we separate mosque and state. Reformers will work w us to that end.

In my opinion, the fact that it’s in a dusty old book is not nearly as pressing as the fact that it’s in the current laws of a dozen countries to kill us.
