I’ve noticed that most Arabs leave Islam, but most Pakistanis want to hang on-advocating for reform or ‘cultural Islam’ Why the distinction? Is it because Arabs have a better understanding of Islam? Or is it because Pakistanis have few cultural aspects once you remove Islam?

Iranians generally have an opposite reaction to Pakistanis. They want to keep the religion, but denounce all the cultural aspects. They value Persian culture, not Arab culture. So interesting to consider how different groups of ppl react so differently.

I think you’re right. Pakistanis are stuck. They denounce their history of Indian culture and yet they can’t ever fit into Arab culture...so they’re in limbo.
