Ranked choice DOES change that; we've already had a taste of just how much in California. I'm also an Independent. Suggesting that party is the only way is a canard; party tribalism is what got us here in the first place -- from both sides of the aisle. The choice is not binary.
It is binary in 2019 and 2020! At the Presidential level it is going to be between a D and an R; all else are spoilers. CA and ME might work at other levels. Getting rid of Collins is going to take a Democrat. Its too critical to go for anything but a D.
