It is always-on, so scope of potential attacks is never limited to when you're playing the game

Why is this important? National / private security. Gaining access to players data (assuming VALORANT gains 100M+ users), which is certainly Riot's plans.. makes Vanguard a bigger and bigger target for foreign attackers.

If Riot was independent until today, Tencent wouldn't be able to buy it. Likewise, if http://Musical.ly (now TikTok) grew to its current popularity, talks of acq. by ByteDance (even with infinite money) would be blocked by the US government.
