Can confirm there's a certain basis to the rumor - no one has been able to contact any of the admins. I found this out at World Con. Archive your favorite fics on there just to be safe.

just a soft FYI to all my fanfic readers out there: there's a stronger-than-normal rumor that fanfiction (dot) net is shutting down soon. it is one of the biggest archives of fanfic from the late 00s, so if you have any fics on there you want to keep -- I'd suggest you get them

My sources told me not to panic because it'll probably be years before it goes down even with neglect, but no one is responding to the people trying to systematically archive the content on there. So if you want to preserve anything you have to do it yourself 😫

Literally all my nostalgic comfort fics are on there. Wow... Like, from freaking 2006. I started reading fanfic on my Nintendo 3DS when I could use the Internet, then on my PSP, long before even getting a phone. Bro...😭 I still remember all the old shipping formats, & key words.

One of my friends noted that her fic stats haven't updated in 4 days, when they normally have a pretty consistent up-and-down. Don't know if that means it's going down soon, but probably should back up fics sooner rather than later.
