USB restricted Mode is pure Marketing..A game against companies helping law enforcement and trying to stop them as PR

Can someone *please* bring AltKeyboard2 to iOS 11? thx!

Call them defenders or whatever but not fixers. Fixers are those who fix a line of code they have likely written wrongly/insecurely in the first place. And they usually do that AFTER a 3rd party has discovered the problem.

One problem here is that the term fixer is convoluted. It is used for: 1) people who fix a line of code 2) people who create mitigations 3) people who create safe libraries/frameworks 4) people who apply patches that have been released It is IMHO bad and wrong to call 2-4 fixers

Btw: i would love talks from vendors about the mitigations they implemented because then we would finally know the official reasoning why so many of them totally miss to stop attackers.
-
Another problem of „praising fixers“ if you understand them as providing safe(r) libraries is: it is simply not interesting to hear that they created a safe e.g. string library. why pay for a conference that provides talks that are merely API descriptions of safe libraries
-
When you look at Apple kernel vulns that were disclosed since iOS 10. Several of them were the result of: Not testing a new code path at least once during development, adding wrong integer casts to comparisons to silence compiler warnings... And you want to praise the fixers?
-
This is a statement developers love to hear because it completely ignores that the fixers are usually those who created the problem in the first place because they ignored widely known principles. why praise them after a 3rd party was required to point them to it?https://twitter.com/chrfolini/status/1015153398637846528 …

the only actors in possession or iOS passcode bruteforcing tech that needs to wait more than 1h are well behaving LEA that need a warrant. USB restricted mode protects only against those. Unless they know the windows can be prolonged by simply sticking in USB accessory before 1h

If you are so scared of iOS pincode passcode bruteforcing technology being used by criminals and not by law enforcement use a long passcode. Criminals unlike law enforcement do not need to wait longer than 1h to attach that functionality after snatching your phone.

this is their mitigation for chargebacks I believe. so they might not stop payments if you are willing to wait the 180 days.

Patreon is preferred so I don’t have to wait 6 months to receive the donation, but I guess PayPal works for now…https://twitter.com/coolstarorg/status/1016515336802205696 …

PayPal donate button is back since it seems PayPal still accepts payments, although I’ll have to wait 6 months to withdraw it since limited account… Guess I’ll leave the button up until PayPal stops accepting payments

I haven't forgotten about LockPages and Forecast — development work will resume on those tweaks after I release mikoto and PreferenceOrganiser 2. The changes Apple made to the Weather frameworks make updating Forecast somewhat complicated (not to mention the complete […]

mikoto 4.0 is also nearing completion, just need to fix up some minor bugs that cropped up on iOS 11.3.1 (and some of which are actually iPhone X specific…)pic.twitter.com/h3Z21RN8cN

Special thanks to char/ちゃる (
@charuri) for giving me the ability to throughly test all my tweaks on iPhone X / iOS 11.3.1!
