Finally got around to visiting Longridge Fell Redwing roost tonight. Despite the awful weather it was an amazing spectacle, we counted 10k before the main late blitz when this video was taken it was roughly 100 every second, counting so difficult but we estimated over 50,000!

Excited to report that headstarted godwits have been spotted in Senegal! 🇸🇳 Rainbow and Carr are both females and were released back in June . Here they are pictured in the rearing aviary prior to their release. Will they be back in the fens next spring?

The Australian birding community is in mourning and still coming to terms with the tragic loss of Clive Minton who inspired generations with his boundless enthusiasm for migratory shorebirds. Our hearts go out to his family and his shorebird research family in the VWSG and AWSG.

5000 on the move. Still unprecedented numbers at at the moment. The site is becoming increasingly important as a refuge for these birds as growing recreational pressure on the coast limits their undisturbed roosting places.
