Yes, there's structural problem w/ HPD. No, I'm not surprised there was a bet for 1st murder (of 2021). When a Sgt. was caught saying he was "trigger happy", we were told "there's a misunderstanding". When a detective stole from HPD crime unit, "there's few bad apples". /1
When an officer posted "Call to Arms" on social media to his fellow Glastonbury residents b/c black & brown Hartford residents used their public parks, we were told, "they're looking into it". When officers of color & LGBTQ officers complain they get passed for promotions. /2
Rules applying to some but not others leaves us w/ an unsustainable system that will continue to crash. These are just some the incidents we know about. Imagine the ones we don't know. Lots of work to be done in HPD for real reform. /3
