All I want is a nice color laser all-in-one that works in Linux. Once again it seems I want the wrong thing!

Allrightythen, I ordered a Brother MFC-J5945DW inkjet all-in-one. After calculating total costs (purchase and operating) their inkjets cost about the same as their laser printers. I ruled out HP because they gouge on ink prices, and have chipped ink cartridges.

Also HP has too many negative reviews, and my last HP printer purchase was underwhelming. Brother's ink refills are reasonably priced, and they don't block third-party inks.

I'm still not clear on Linux support on Brother printers. Brother supports certain printers on Linux, but I could not find out if CUPS supports the ones that are not officially supported. http://openprinting.org has been down for days, hello

Do you run SuSE or OpenSUSE, Carla? If so, you can persuade Yast to list the built-in printers it supports by going through a printer add process, then searching the driver database, and choose one from there.
