Meena has exactly the same core issue as ELIZA: it doesn't build a model of what it or the interlocutor has said, and it often contradicts what happened a few turns earlier. Topic without understanding in 1965, topic without understanding in 2020. Here's a sample:

Types of peer review: 1) 3 anonymous scientists write secret reviews in a process that takes a few months 2) dozens of known experts write comments that anyone in the world can see hours after a paper is posted (e.g this thread 👇) Explain to me again why is 1 >> 2?

An excerpt from my new book « How we learn », on the 1st pillar of learning: attention modulates what we perceive and learn. With kudos to my mentor Mike Posner, attention pioneer, still very active in studying how brain connections change with training.

Welp, there it is. Not often stated so baldly, but very much the underlying premise for many racists and eugenicists

This tweet was partly inspired by a coffee machine chat with the head of another department when he was about to retire. He said he looked forward to having time to read and think. I think most people wouldn't expect scientists feel they need to retire to have time for this.

When our eyes move, the brain purposely blocks our vision. This is the reason why you can’t see the motion of your eyes in a mirror and also why we spend several minutes a day effectively blind, but totally unaware of it [gif: ]

And another version of this exaggeration which can occur in schizophrenia is "thought echo" - one thinks one's thoughts and then hears them being repeated out loud. Or one can hear one's thoughts being spoken on the radio - "thought broadcast".

I hadn't realised that some people did not have an internal monologue. An interesting aspect of this is that a core symptom of schizophrenia is to have an exaggeration of this where one's thoughts seem so "loud" that people nearby can hear them.
