I don’t know about that, up until the algorithm change I was doing okay. Not rich, but enough to keep me being able to make games. I agree that press has had little impact when I’ve been covered.

I've not been covered by press (big sites I mean) since... 8 years ? I've learned to live without it

And that’s the right approach - explore and find what works for you and keep iterating on it.

Press (games and non-games), Youtubers and IGF are what worked for me.

Does having a champion/advocate on social media help? (Depending on their reach, obviously). I always hope that when I mention games on podcasts that some listeners take the time to look them up

Absolutely. Virality is a very powerful tool. Also, if a game’s discussed, adding a link to where it can be bought is a huge help. My game’s been covered by a few journalists and Youtubers who’ve failed to add a link to the store :(

This is something we could be more mindful of when doing our show notes and tweets about episodes for
@LapsedGamer. I've always made sure to include links when I do#LGRFreeGames in January, but obviously this just covers free games (hopefully it helps dev visibility though)2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -

Even for free games, links are great :) I appreciate you considering it.

indiepocalypse has always been there, last 5 years, we were just too busy discussing
#gamedev stuff like unity or unreal and didn't want to admit it.2 replies 0 retweets 2 likes -

Indiepocalypse is an illusion, it’s not real and at best just another name for a different problem than most imagine it is.

you can call it how you want but it's a combo of: no exposure through Steam anymore + lots of good games coming out + lots of bad games coming out + price erosion =

Or find a better way to promote our games?

I'm all ears when someone says "better way to promote", I've been trying hear from everyone last year about how to better promote an indie game, fail to lay down concrete results for myself
