sometimes i worry about an extremely anti-social player refusing every single option the game gives and then complaining that they stop getting events. (I actually saw someone play England Exchange that way. Turned down all dates, then wondered why nothing happened.)

so much of what happens in Wolf Hall is optional. You don't have to join the Sports Club. You don't have to join Chorale. You don't have to run for office. You don't have to chase after the thing that goes bump in the night. Etc.

in Roommates I used a nice system: each event had a sort of "preview" (like introducing the scene/setting) and then the player could decide if to skip or play the event

Did anyone skip everything and then complain? :)

in this case is different because you don't see "skip" without knowing what is the scene about. I got no complaints :)

With the England Exchange case, it was literally people having a datable character show up, say "Hey, want to go out?" and choosing "NO" and then wondering why they had no dates. :)
