nah it's almost certainly 1) lack of proper permissions 2) unsigned binaries (app works around both)

indeed for that game I uploaded the unzipped folder and not the .zip file produced by Ren'Py itself

using https://itch.io/docs/butler/ to upload your game fixes that problem at upload time, so the .zip is correct for everyone :)

yes I am using butler! but I still need to upload from the zip? or I can tell butler to upload from a folder (the unzipped zip) ?

I think safari itself unzipped the .zip, you know when it downloads a zip file automatically extracts it on the documents/downloads folder
