I think a Steam Direct fee of $500 would have been better. A $100 fee each game is basically the same as not having one

Greenlight is already like having no barrier, based on the type of stuff that gets through it. Anything would be an improvement.

you sure? I think is much easier/faster to pay $100 and get in immediately than bother promoting a game on GL! (you still need votes)

Also asset flips business model depends on massive numbers of games so this still kind of deflates that unless people game the system.

1000 devs that probably won't recoup the costs, but still they'll try (like happens on mobile now). Result=flooding the store even more
