I see devs saying "Steam is earning their 30%". Well... yes and no. Of course you get more exposure than in other PC stores (but this is also due to non-existant competition). However, have they released a game in the last couple of years? because things changed A LOT!
I'd like a proportional cut based on revenues. Would be nice/ethical to help small devs going on more than big AAA companies... :)

That would be nice - but there's really no sense in it beyond just wanting to be generous for PR given that games which sell very little have the worst cost to gain for Valve.

Because, really, the way they've done it - which is currently proportional based on revenue also makes sense. If you've made Valve a tonne of money, when their cost to gain favours gain hugely, there's an argument that their cut need be less.
