I was chatting with a moderately famous other indie. They were shocked by the low numbers of their latest release vs one of their previous games. And I can only say that I dream of such numbers (that game has over 800 reviews on Steam) :P

If you just want money, simple and fanservice seems more cost effective. (Un)fortunately it's not that easy for developers to throw away their pride (at least until they're broke)
