I was chatting with a moderately famous other indie. They were shocked by the low numbers of their latest release vs one of their previous games. And I can only say that I dream of such numbers (that game has over 800 reviews on Steam) :P

there's another take: a clearly inferior game (by their own admission) made way more back in 2012 than their recent release past year. And they had similar results with other games. I think in the next few years we'll see less and less ambitious games by indies

not trying to sound doom & gloom BTW, just sharing my thoughts and maybe helping some new indie to avoid doing the same mistake over and over: "let's do a 3D VR MMORPG as first game"

"Make good games fast", I've been hearing this since at least 2010! There's no clear recipe though : many indie games took 5 years to make and are huge success for it but it's of course hard to pull off and not a guarantee in itself. I'd rather not spend that long myself!
