personally I think animated characters are really nice to see, however it adds an extra difficulty level for the artist (not everyone know how to use it). And sometimes a bad animation is worse than no animation at all :P so it needs to be done well

If I'm using animations I'll be doing them in Unity; but I am considering using Ren'Py for a future simpler title in mind

Maybe it's a matter of implementation in the games I've seen it used for, but I find live2d animation very distracting. It feels very... Bouncy? It makes characters feel like they're fidgeting rather than moving.

Since making live 2D assets is too much work I'll refrain from doing so for a while...the rigging price is still high

I have no clue about the prices tbh! But I guess they'll be higher than normal sprites :P
