with today's modern tools is really easy to get good looking 3d characters, but animating them properly, lip-sync, etc etc is still an insane effort. That's why I'll probably never make a 3d game myselfpic.twitter.com/zkVNwu0K1b

Disagree that this is an issue with 3D as a whole. Certainly going for a realistic look would see you falling short of AAA standards, but there's plenty of 3D low-poly stylised indie games which don't get directly compared to blockbuster AAA titles for graphics.
yes, I meant that kind of 3d (wrote it badly :D)
for an indie is much better to use low-poly stylized art but for my kind of games.... ahem... stylized boobs aren't attractive
And if you try to paste 3D chars (even high quality ones) into a 2D game, it looks *incredibly* cheap.
yes, but considering some topselling games I've seen on Steam that use that method, might work lol (they were porn though XD)
I have a clear talent for 3D so my solution is to go into niche genres and styles like anime so Im not competing with triple a games. I really don't care if My games are nothing like everyone's favorite Keanu reeves hype train or whatever
I know I meant that people might compare it to AAA, not you. But as said, I saw many devs doing it who also are successful so is definitely possible!
