A friend of mine did a huge Steam and SteamSpy scrape several years ago and we looked at data like this but by tag. Anyway the results were similar just some genres have changed in popularity/crowdedness since then. But there are some evergreens.

basically this. we specifically crop scope so that we don't even consider ideas that would take more than 20 months to make. granted, we've only shipped one game, but it's enough for us to continue on the same path. -
this might be important for context: D&T, while its pre-prod time is ~2 years, we've been developing full-time from June 2019, so ~16 months in, and we will stop active dev after our Halloween update (loca will still happen), so that 20 months i mentioned includes post-release.
