related to my choice of making 4 smaller games is also the fact that I'm thinking the VN market is shifting to shorter, cheaper games. I mean of course there are exceptions, but talking about the 99% of games

I'm going to talk about this next month in my blog, but assuming you could say 2 VNs of same quality (which is obviously hard since depends on writing, story, etc), the one with shorter story and lower price will attract more impulse buyers resulting in more sales at launch

and by how the Steam algorihtm is made, BIG launch = better overall sales/long tail. Sure there are games that do bad/average at launch and then players discover them months later when discounted, but the impact is minor than a successful launch

I agree with you but as a player I can't imerge in a game world if it's not long enough. Short VNs are mostly too simple, swift and flat (ofc there're exceptions), so I can't feel characters and enjoy a wholesome story. So I never buy a VN if I know it's under 10 hours of play.

And I think that short VNs are all made just to make money and impulsive sales as you said. There aren't any "deep thoughts" or author's love to characters or creativity, but a ton of cliche and predictability. I played a lot of bad short VNs and never gonna try them again.

yes I understand completely what you said. If you'll ever try my game Hazel when is out (not sure about your tastes) I think that even if is "short" (will still probably be around 60-70k words) it's not simple/banal at all!
