I think it has something to do with how much time the player has for spending on a visual novel or games in general. Usually, I like the challenge, but whenever I have a rough week, I just wanna indulge in the story.
several people are having difficulties unlocking some routes of Volleyball Heaven (like Emily's one) so I was wondering if people prefer VNs to be easy in general? or should choices only change the story but it should not be difficult to play all routes?

yes I don't have much time/patience anymore too. For example I looked online the solution for Tell Me Why riddles because I wanted to advance with the story

Not going to lie I just want to read the story I don’t mind some hard to get strange ending but normal routes and happy ending being easy improves games for me, I have adhd and my ability to focus when I’m frustrated or not get stimulation form a story is zero

Game play is different if I feel like it my fault I’m getting stimulated and feel like I need to keeping going but VN make me feel like I’m filling out a test no one told me about when it’s hard to do things. I like breaching storytelling but hard routes and hard normal

games are challenging in a good way when it has a clever puzzle or a type of mechanic where I can practice mastering the skill. Visual novels make their routes "challenging" by making you pick weird choices in an exact order with 0 hints or obscure/unclear clues given.
