so, in a party based RPG, skills that level up the more you use them. Good or bad idea? Also, explain why please :)

It depends on how you want the game to feel - it's neither a good nor bad idea. Leveling skills as you use them is an intuitive method but it also makes leveling a more passive process. And if you have skills beyond combat presented on the same screen, such as speech skills then

...it would be a bit weird to mix and match passive leveling with non-passive. Personally it's all or nothing when it comes to how skills work.

and there would still be a level up screen in which you can increase the skill assigning points. It's just that during battles you could increase them a bit more too. Like on level up each click = +20 value to point During fight, maybe every 2-3 fights = +1 to that skill used

I'm not altogether sure what the point is in having such a small increase from fights. In all practicality that's not making combat skills passively leveled unless you're expecting people to have hundreds and hundreds of fights in a game?

haha well, in past games they had a hundred fights for real :D but yes not sure it's good in my next game situation
