in story-based games with choices, you'd rather have a shorter experience but wiht more branching or a longer one with less branching?

My question here is... what mechanics does the player have beside choice? If choice is the only game mechanic, then yeah, I want lots of it. But it doesn't have to be always branching for it to be interesting.

yes I agree, also sometimes it's enough scene variants without brancing. Like a choice on how to solve a problem, and each choice unlocks a short scene. But then it continues as normal. The choices still did matter since changed the story but not big chunk of it
