so here's the thing: sooner or later Epic will become "open" like 99% of other stores. At this point what will happen? Steam will continue with their 30% or will be forced to go down and match the 12%? As indie, what would you do if you could choose? Interesting times ahead...

It's pretty easy actually. You give people with a track record of being able to deliver fun games the funding. It's not hard to find recognize such people. That's very easy. What's hard is predicting what will be a hit. That's actually random. But talent makes it more likely.

So if a platform invests in people who actually know how to make games, instead of fishing for people who might stumble on to a hit if you have enough of them, then we will be getting somewhere as an industry.

A platform such as Steam really does not care how many games fail. It's like throwing an infinite number of monkeys at the problem of making hits, and big or small, Steam takes a cut. It might as well be a casino. The house always wins.
