The brewery still has a waterwheel out the back. This is also where the two main rivers (Asker and Brit) in the town meet and then carry on south to the sea about a mile away.pic.twitter.com/XpjXmVLAXl
Then we headed north back into town past the town’s football club and playing field until we reached what used to be the town’s rope making industrial area. It’s still going today and makes nets from plastic not hemp.pic.twitter.com/weDT5N3JKA
Then a walk on the north west side of town past some bull rushes.pic.twitter.com/kMGBMMkuvM
Along a path by some old houses on the side of a hill and spotted an old water pump. Might have served the whole row of houses in the 19th century.pic.twitter.com/oAl6kT0aSC
Finally we turned East and headed home. This house used to be a post office when I was a kid.pic.twitter.com/HTCZVFaEjM
Back across the old railway that is now a road then across the field to the bridge at Happy Island.pic.twitter.com/aomwJKKfBl
And a final peek up a path near our house. We are lucky to live in such a nice area with a fascinating history. Done! Hope you enjoyed the thread.pic.twitter.com/oVQJ8A3zNq
and historic buildings. I bet you have some great old buildings near you right? And we know you have fantastic scenery.
yes there are a couple places very old, some Roman ruins even
Yeah cool. We have some very close to us, 15 miles away in a county town called Dorchester. The Romans took it over from the iron age people here and then stayed for 400 years.
