another interesting article: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2020/04/ars-analysis-80-of-steam-games-earn-under-5k-in-first-two-weeks/ … "80% of Steam games earn under 5k in first two weeks" Not trying to be negative but it's useful data to know to anyone aspiring to be an indie. Short summary: it's super tough out there, but worth trying!

But Valve just told me 1,200 new games made $10k in the first two weeks. Those are both super big numbers!

$10k gross = $6,5k after Steam's cut = $3,5-4k after tax (unless you live in a tax heaven)

40% seems like a lot of tax for a self-employed person in the US. 20%-30% seems more realistic - deducting expenses, and counting income and payroll tax. (But not sales tax or VAT.)

the "official tax" here is 44% but with various extra local taxes it can go as high as 58%! well, I live in the most taxed country in the world. However, at least healthcare is free :)

That's fair. That number includes local taxes, but my healthcare adds 8% or so. I also save a lot for retirement, which lowers the taxes I pay today.

well I'm not an expert but USA/UK taxes seems low compared to the average EU. In any case a global average should be around 30% I think
