But, note that the numbers reaching $250K gross and $1M gross (over 5 years) is still quite small. It's a hit driven industry.

250k gross - 35% of Steam = 162k / 5 = 32k assuming at least 30% tax (where? a tax heaven? I pay way more :P) that's about 20k net in pocket! this not even considering costs, salaries,etc

Thing is, to make a game that grosses $250K you probably have to spend money on art, music, marketing etc so there are extra costs to add to the mix.

yes mine was a best-case scenario in which maybe you got a successful Kickstarter that covered all costs. Usually that doesn't happen though :P

On quick note on the numbers. The $250k already includes Steam's cut. Plus you can work on other games during the 5 years (as Jake does) and/or release on other platforms. So you can eat.
