Despite the gloomy median revenue outlook from my earlier post, this chart (click link in tweet below) shows that MORE games are hitting higher revenue in recent years which is the counter argument I often hear to the indieapocalypse.https://twitter.com/sergiogarces/status/1227651999690178561 …

But, note that the numbers reaching $250K gross and $1M gross (over 5 years) is still quite small. It's a hit driven industry.

Yeah over 5 years that'll support one person fulltime, depending on if they have kids or not

250k gross - 35% of Steam = 162k / 5 = 32k assuming at least 30% tax (where? a tax heaven? I pay way more :P) that's about 20k net in pocket! this not even considering costs, salaries,etc

Thing is, to make a game that grosses $250K you probably have to spend money on art, music, marketing etc so there are extra costs to add to the mix.

yes mine was a best-case scenario in which maybe you got a successful Kickstarter that covered all costs. Usually that doesn't happen though :P

On quick note on the numbers. The $250k already includes Steam's cut. Plus you can work on other games during the 5 years (as Jake does) and/or release on other platforms. So you can eat.

thanks, if it's net of Steam cut then it's very different!
