It's good but I got more addicted to FTL. Had to play that until I beat it on "Normal" (AKA Hard) mode.

ItB also clicked much better with me than FTL. It's an easier game.

There's no real-time component so you can think it through properly.

that as well. and it's also not as random as FTL.

yes that's what I didn't like, I mean I know that roguelikes are about that (random stuff happening) but I hate to lose only because of bad luck

The idea with such games is you attempt to reduce the chance of bad luck taking you out but sometimes bad luck still wins. It’s how Shadowhand works because ultimately it’s a card game. I get why people don’t like that though. Depends on your mindset going into the game.

FTL sometimes didn't feel fair to me as well (although I still liked it overall), I'm ok with randomness but I think there are ways of handling randomness better or worse as a game designer.

Yep and that’s why I’ve tweaked things for Ancient Enemy.

I'm also not too quick to judge a game as "too random", as I remember thinking that about spelunky and desktop dungeons as well & with both of these it ended that I just wasn't playing them very well! Once I improved I realised they were a lot less random

yes it depends how much the amount of randomness weights overall. For example in Slay the Spire is very well balanced IMHO.
