I checked a bit how Patreon funded games work. I like the idea that you can give early access to the game in development to different groups of people based on their pledge. This way people who can/want to pay less just need to wait some more time to get the latest versions

it doesn't work for all kind of games (for example my current RPG couldn't be sold for $5 access, there's simply too much content behind it) but for some experimental games could be a good way to judge their potential

One way to do it with an RPG could be to do some 'tests' throughout to let people see parts or systems and share ideas. IE like a combat demo and use it to help get feedback on that or a small section of it
