haha it's hilarious, half of indie devs technical posts on my timeline are about abandoning MacOs when new version comes out. Great job Apple! you did it!

is this because of the notarization thing?

does Apple make you pay each time to have it done or something?

no but as pointed out by others, is just a major annoyance. Release day of big game: you make 10 updates to fix bugs (happened to me!). EVERY TIME you need to notarize the app! it's madness

maybe I'm being dumb, not being a games dev, but is there a reason that those updates can't be batched up and released as a single, larger update only requiring one notarization?

If they're bugfix updates, you can't predict how many bugs are going to need fixed. So you can fix each one when it comes up (problem if you have to notarise every time) OR you can decide to just not bother updating the mac version until after you've made at least X updates...

which means the mac version lags way behind other versions in terms of fixes, which makes mac users unhappy. If you decide to only update the mac once a month, they could be stuck with a big bug for weeks that everyone else had fixed long ago.

yes an in general is a bad thing since users won't know that's not devs fault. At that point better just abandon the platform completely also considering the small % of users (that's what every indie is saying in their posts)
