I've been thinking that Apple's progressively increasing requirements to have software run on macOS really hurt creator diversity.

They're annoying to someone like me, but I own a mac (thanks, sponsors!), have the resources to spend on their developer program (thanks, sponsors!), and can spare the time to learn how to do it (thanks...)

For someone starting out, without all those advantages, the requirements are a lot more of a problem. I have to think spending $1k for a mac and a developer ID is a barrier to entry into the mac space.

I think one of the big advantages of Ren'Py, at least in the old days, was you could click a button and get a version of your game that worked on Window, Mac, and Linux that you could just give to your friends.

And now, I can pretty much say that about Windows. (Though they have their own SmartScreen problems), but it's really hard to say the one-click version of the mac app is something you can expect to work.

And so when it comes to the mac side of things, we go from "all sorts of creators" to "all sorts of creators (who are willing and able to put up with the Apple rigamarole)."

many indies are quitting Mac development after the next OS comes out. I was never an Apple fan, but even the most loyal fans are quitting disgusted by their policy and that says all!
