This is a cool idea so I'm going to do it too. Thanks to @alexiskennedy
@Enichan and @tanyaxshort
for starting this.
Basically I started working in games very early, when I was 20, but at the times internet wasn't even a thing. /1

That company went bankrupt, and I was too scared and shy (and alone) to go in UK to start working for some gaming company. From 20 to 27 years old I worked in a boring IT job. Then when I was 27 I discovered "Dexterity forums" (now defunct) and the shareware/indie dev /2

there I learned a lot of things and made several internet friends that still are nowadays like
@puppygames ,@cliffski and@HanakoGames . I started doing sports simulation and strategy games and the first year were good (I still wasn't making enough for a salary though) /31 reply 0 retweets 3 likesShow this thread -
in 2008 after spending 10-12 months on a turn based strategy game (Supernova: Spacewear) which then sold 100 copies in total, I thought I would be forced to go back and take a daily job. That Summer, I had the idea to try making "one of those japanese dating sims". /4

since my English was even worse than now back then, I asked help of
@HanakoGames since she knew those games. We released Summer Session in July 2008 and sold over 300 copies in half month. I realized that I had simply picked the wrong genre of games to make /51 reply 0 retweets 4 likesShow this thread -
but even when you know what kind of games you are good at, or a good market niche, you can still make mistakes like I did back in 2010 with my Vera Blanc games (using badly western art instead of anime). I remember at one point I had less than $1k in bank /6

that year I decided I had to change again. Not that VN/dating sims aren't a viable genre but I had to do something better. I started Planet Stronghold, my first VN/RPG hybrid. That year also collaborated with
@christinelove to a game that shall not be named :D /71 reply 0 retweets 3 likesShow this thread -
anyways, things started to go better, in 2012 made Loren, still my most successful title to date, then 2014 got on Steam when it still wasn't crowded, and so on. The most important lesson I've learned is: things can change VERY FAST and be ready to try new things /8

nowdays I talk a lot privately with other indies like
@GreyAlien ,@braceyourselfok and more and the coolest thing is that everyone has his own strategy. There isn't a single way to succeed (or even only make a living). /91 reply 1 retweet 6 likesShow this thread
anyway to conclude, I can think of at least 3-4 times where I got EXTREMELY lucky in my life, and simple making another choice (not make dating sim, not use ren'py, not talk with other indies, etc) could have made my indie career much much shorter :P /10
