i remember there being some kind of lock when too many purchases are made to prevent abuse/fraud, happened to a friend who was buying midboss keys for friends through itch before. can't remember how to resolve though sorry

haha yes, it happened in the past, for example I think that old website Desura who leaked lot of Steam keys because of people buying with stolen credit cards and so on.

luckily now Valve added the key ban tool, so in the event many keys get stolen you can mass-ban them and the thieves did it for nothing :)

How does this work? You have a page where you can enter any number of keys and disable them? Is it easy to use?

yes very simple, you can upload a txt file and click "ban". You can even choose to ban only unused ones if you want (useful to screw the key-resellers)
