Sometimes other indie devs approach me, saying I paint too bleak a picture of indie dev, because I say it's virtually impossible. I don't think that's true. I think the people who did the virtually impossible are the last people you should ask to estimate your chance of success.

I recently watched a GDC talk of
@jasonrohrer which was brilliant - a very successful dev like him made 14 (FOURTEEN) games before making ANY money, which means 6 years without income. If people think that this is not hard, I don't know where are they living!

their argument is usually that i make it sound like it's impossible, which it's not, but i never say it's actually impossible so basically it's reading things into what i'm saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

sure it's not impossible, meaning that 0% of "average joe indie" will make it.
the odds of "average joe indie"making it are 0,001% instead, much higher!
