are game demos still relevant in 2019 for indies? I think basically 99% of indie games don't have a demo anymore... #indiedev

The need for a demo is directly inversely proportional to the generosity of the store's refund policy.

well I was talking about selling direct on itchio. But on the other hand 90% of sales are going to come from Steam anyway, so...

I haven't purchased planet 2 as of yet. I plan to, though it is beta still, I would prefer finished one.

For a beginner demos are helpful to gauge general response and whether you really want to do this when the complete project will be LARGE but you have a reputation and know-how already. You aren't crowdfunding or otherwise seeking capital.

Fun fact: Snow White's human characters were rotoscoped not because of aesthetics but because Disney was broke and needed the fastest way to show investors a pencil test of the scenes.
