I finally want to talk about this on here because it’s tough to keep on going some days… I had a bad reaction to antibiotics back in January and they pretty much destroyed my legs and left arm. They became weak, as though they’d collapse under pressure, and then I developed...

neuropathy symptoms, mainly pain and numbness. The numbness seems to have gone now, but the pain still persists. After the first few weeks of bed rest, I could sometimes sit at my desk or play games with a controller, but other times this was too much.

Good news, I am pretty much working full time at my desk again, but the pain is usually present albeit lessened. My muscle weakness seems to improve every week and I’m back to walking Goro and keeping up with chores, but standing in shops or at crossings can still be difficult.

My doctor was useless but I've found support from other “floxies” who have suffered like I have. Most recover, but often not fully. Others are permanently damaged. I feel lucky to be able to get back to work, drive, cook, clean etc. but angry and upset that this happened at all.

The recovery is so damn slow, like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I suspect my body is working overtime to try and heal as I’m so tired and fatigued now. Unfortunately, it’s messed up my sleep too, but nothing compared to the first few weeks where I had horrendous nightmares.

I’ve generally become accepting of all this, but it’s been tough. I’ve grieved for the healthy body that I lost almost overnight. I still find myself wishing my life was how it was before… but it’s too painful to look back like that. I have to stay optimistic.

That’s partly why I haven’t spoken about it: it’s too depressing. I need to look forward. Anyway, please ask for alternative antibiotics to fluoroquinolones as their “rare side-effects” have destroyed many. And please, for me, appreciate the body you have today <3
