daily reminder that #indiedev has become a really tough business. I don't know if it's the crowded market, the algorithm, the quality bar that has increased, the price erosion, etc. I only know even if my latest RPG #CursedLands was a success, wouldn't be enough to be full-time

One thing we could do as indie devs is expand the market, make more people aware of indie games, VNs, etc. As someone who lives in one of the more expensive states in the US, I can sympathize.

it's not just Indies, it's also gotten harder to get a job in games at the entry level (there was some recent article about how there are roughly as 1/3 as many game student graduating per year in the UK as there are employees in the whole uk games industry for example)

I was lucky to both make some indie games when it was still less crowded (got my "break" with my first game released 2011) as well as get some game-dev job experience when there was less competition in the job market (a lot less competition for senior/experienced roles).
