I think you’d have a hard time finding people outside Japan who can make a living off of visual novels. @HanakoGames and @ebihimes seem to be doing pretty well, though?

in my case though, my most successful games are the RPGs (albeit with a strong story/VN element) so I wouldn't really consider me as "VN author" :P

I agree, if I was starting out now fresh, I think I'd have a <very hard time> to make this a full-time job. But this is probably true for any kind of game nowadays
