Honestly most ways I see to survive 2019 as an indie involves being at least somewhat established and having some niche fame/connections. Which is semi-good news for me, maybe, but terrible news for anyone trying to break into the commercial indie space as a newcomer.

You definitely need a bit of hubris to even attempt a career like this. But expectations should always be managed. I always treat every game as a potential failure and am always thinking of alternate strategies if things don’t go the way I hope.

Although in general I don’t like to publicly point out our failures because a chunk of our games are created in partnership with other developers and it isn’t my place to say anything.
