People are skeptical of "oh its the indiepocalypse again" but people warning y'all have many years of selling on PC behind their belts, and saw the bottom fall out of Steam in October with Valve saying working as intended after their revenue was suddenly 1/3 of what it was before

Then there were widespread reports of very disappointing numbers in the Steam winter sale. You can't just slash people's incomes by a factor of 2 to 3 and expect their businesses to magically be okay, that's not how business works.

And meanwhile there aren't any stores that can fill that revenue gap. So sure some indie games will survive 2019 just like they always have but it's yet another market contraction on top of all of the other contractions we've seen over the past few years.

It's not like people suddenly struggling with revenue are newbies with bombed games here. If
@unormal is telling you "oof the end of 2018 was rough" when Caves of Qud has has 97% positive on 1270 reviews on Steam you should maybe listen the fuck up.1 reply 4 retweets 26 likesShow this thread -
This isn't just us bitching that we're not getting what we think we deserve this is us sounding the alarm cause Valve has literally engineered what y'all so derisively call the indiepocalypse. You can bury your head in the sand cause you don't wanna believe it but you can't hide

So take your "games that should do well will do well" meritocracy bullshit and stuff it, cause it doesn't apply when Valve tweaks an algorithm and suddenly your game has 3 times less revenue. Unless you think those games also suddenly have three times less merit as if by magic.

So anyway Steam taking a 30% cut is a scam, abolish Valve, eat the indie rich.

Oh and before I go this is accompanied by Switch store sales normalizing (not that it's that easy to get on console anyway) AND I've seen reports of mobile games getting hammered by discovery issues floating around my timeline too. So good luck trying to diversify to stay alive.

in general EVERYTHING dropped a lot in the last couple of years, the PC was the only happy exception, but after the last 6 months... nope
