Seems like just a few years ago I had to obsess over fillrate and texture sizes and now it's like "Yeah, let's keep this tiny GUI item 1024x1024 because I may want to scale it or whatever."
haha I'm still using 1280x720 res for my games =D (though to be honest Ren'Py automatically scales them up and I use bigger textures especially for the characters)

At this point I just started doing everything resolution independent while targeting for native 1080p. It's not like it makes any difference hardware-wise anymore, but looks so much better. According to Steam, 60%+ players have 1080p screens. And then there're console ports.

Even now, when we're porting Cinders, I'm it's an issue that we went for 1280x800. I mean, it made sense at the time, but it's very noticeable on a 4k TV. And Bonfire pretty much has me updating all the assets to twice the size. I really dropped the ball here. :(

With Lore Finder I shipped 2560px, 1920px, and 1024px width for the titlescreen just in case someone's max texture size was 1024. >_> I looked at some stats and couldn't rule that one out but I did effectively rule out 512 max so that's nice.
