I don't think RPG maker existed when I was 25. Anyone know when it was first made? @pcmacgames @HanakoGameshttps://twitter.com/bridalcarry/status/1084992145948270593 …

You can probably just pretend it said ZZT, ACS, FRUA, or something similar instead.

Or SEUCK. But those usually aren’t the kind of games that leave much of an impression.

I used SEUCK, AMOS Basic, Blitz. Then after a hyatus of about 6-7 years I used C++ and a library called PTK. Finally after a few years used Ren'Py and haven't moved from it since 10 years!

I used SEUCK too on C64 and Amiga. Was fun! (but limited)

Most “indie” (I.e. cheap shareware, often free) games of my childhood were made in Turbo Pascal or QuickBasic if I had to guess (often text-mode, you could often also get the code with the game!).

When I was in junior high (so age ~12) I remember one of my friends' older brother was making text-mode games in Turbo Pascal, which made him an instant hero (unfortunately for him only with little boys).

I remember turbo pascal!! There was some graphic library, I remember trying to do some isometric map animated. I drew the tilesets myself. That got my first job in a very small local game company :P
