I think people have very wrong ideas of how much (little) money you can make with an indie game, especially today with the insane competition. I'll make a simple example ->

this is a best case scenario: a game sells for $100k on Steam (a miracle) net revenues from Steam are about 65k taxes, unless you live in a tax heaven will be at least 25-30k 35k goes is in your pocket, if you were good you managed to spend only $10k to make your game = $25k

Even when people *get* that, they don't get that the chances of their first indie game earning $100,000 in revenue are incredibly, incredibly small.

indeed, that's why I said was a "best case scenario". Also, to spend only $10k to make a game? that is really hard!! so my example is probably very unlikely to happen for anyone right now :P
