You know what really bugs me about fantasy RPGs? Spells that don't work. If I cast a circle of warding against undead, I expect them to honor it. If I cast invisibility on myself, I expect not to be visible. Get your act together, every RPG ever.
in my RPG sometimes to balance I have skills behave differently against "boss enemies". Like paralyze or life steal. But I state clearly in the spell description how it works against normal vs boss enemy target

Even if life steal gouged a chunk out of a boss's life instead of killing it, I'd be satisfied. It's when that same spell gets ignored that I get annoyed.

yep, in my case works like this: normal enemy - steal 10% of total HP boss enemy - steal <fixed amount> of HP (varies from game to game)
