one of the most common thing I heard from indies is "even if a game is good it won't sell if nobody knows about it." thing is: "if a game is good, people WILL know about it." People greatly underestimate word of mouth power.

good means that most people in that target market will like it, but also means general polishing and that's easy to spot even in a VN

It is still subjective though. I've seen well-received games dead in obscurity, and terrible stuff being super popular.

I think a better example would be your game, Vera Blanc, is actually my favorite of yours, and I heard from the few who played it, they also like it, but it didn't do well. My point is what spreads from word of mouth is subjective. It's not necessarily "good" that spreads.
