A VN does not have to revolve around romance. But, to be fair, I don't like pure VNs that much. I like them having more gameplay mechanics to go along.

Most definitely. I think romance is a neutral factor in VNs for me. Almost all of them do it, but only because it is expected. Higurashi is an excellent VN, for example.

Depends on if the story interests me, in all honesty.

yes but as I wrote, if there are two identical stories (of quality I mean) but one has romance and the other not, which one you play?

I play VNs without romance, but if you ask a question about "this game with romance, or this same game plus romance" I'm likely to lean on the romance side. Non-romantic games usually have to find some other hook, like mystery.
-
yup basically I'm the same. If there's no romance the story has to be REALLY interesting. And if two games are similar but one has romance, I'll pick that one :P

Of course it depends on the story, the FAULT series are my absolute favorite VNs and they don't really feature any romance.

Of course I would. I like playing VNS because they stell stories AND give me agency. Sure, I am mainly a fan of otome VNs, but I don't exclusively play those. Heck, some VNs I like even without any agency at all (like Higurashi). If it's an interesting story, I'm in.
