Just seen an indie kickstarter where <1% of the total budget was for marketing. *sigh*
I would do the same, honestly. Much better to make a good game than spend money on "marketing"

I hope you're being sarcastic because the market has proven that's a wonderful way to get buried under new releases. There's a huge survivor bias in games coverage where you hear more about the few indie successes than the mountains of failures, including plenty of great games.

I mean more that spending money on ads is not effective, but I do my own share of social marketing, so yeah there's that. But spending money on ads on sites is a waste of time with all the adblockers people have installed
